Take the Diaper Drive Challenge
We're still updating this page for 2019. Here's info from last year. Use it to get a sense of what a Diaper Drive looks like, and adjust it to your context!
Diapers can be delivered at any time to Turning Point United Methodist Church (15 South Broad Street, Trenton). Please contact the church office at 609-393-9574 to arrange a time to deliver.
So you're interested in hosting a Diaper Drive at your church or in your community, to collect diapers for the Maker's Place. That's great! Diaper Drives are a lot of fun, and they really do make a difference. So where do you begin?
Each local collection needs at least one diaper drive "Champion." Maybe that's you!
What’s a champion, you ask? Someone who can organize and promote a diaper drive in their local church or community. It takes passion, organizational skills, and the ability to get things done!
First things first, if you’re planning on organizing a Diaper Drive in your community, we’d love to hear from you! Please email firstname.lastname@example.org so that we know you’re out there and can coordinate with you. We can also answer questions and help you get organized!
Planning for Success
Pick your dates: We encourage churches to collect diapers over the course of four Sundays, from Nov. 25th to Dec. 16th. Of course, you can adjust the collection days to suit the needs of your congregation. The last Sunday for collection is December 16, 2018. The Diaper Drive coincides with the season of Advent. We think it’s a great way to reflect on the significance of the birth of Jesus as a newborn baby.
Recruit Volunteers: Jesus said “Go! Do!” but not alone. Find folks who want to help! Who do you know that can help promote your drive on social media, design a creative display for the drop off area in your church, or deliver what you’ve collected to a drop-off location? Be sure to include someone who might be able to talk about the drive during Sunday services. And remember that everyone can pray for children and families who receive the diapers.
Set Your Goals: How many donations will you raise? Develop a way to track your progress, and invite an artsy volunteer to help create a goal-tracking masterpiece!
Spread the Word: Be active before AND during the drive! Announce your diaper drive via social media, emails, bulletin inserts, and church website. We’ve included some graphics to get you started, as well as a Fast Fact Sheet with information on why diapers make a difference! You might also want to ask congregants if their place of work or school would partner with them for a collection. Get creative and have fun!
Share Your Results: Take lots of photos, and post pictures on social media to share your results. We’d suggest using terms like “this week we collected” or “this time we raised” so that people will understand this is an ongoing project. You can use the hashtag #DiaperDriveChallenge to link your collection with other churches from across Greater New Jersey. We’ll announce the total number of diapers collected from all participating churches, and make sure you have that information in time for Sunday, December 23rd, 2018.
Deliver Your Diapers:The Maker’s Place is giving away diapers in Trenton, New Jersey. If possible, we’d like you to deliver your diapers on Sunday, Dec. 16, between 12:00 and 6:00pm, or during designated times over the next few days. Donations can be take to Turning Point United Methodist Church (15 South Broad Street, Trenton, New Jersey 08608). We'll have volunteers ready to help you unload.
If Dec. 16th doesn't work for you, we've got alternative drop-off times. You can bring your diapers to Turning Point UMC on Tuesday, Dec. 18th from 6pm-8pm, or else on Wednesday, Dec. 19th, from 1pm-3pm. Please email email@example.com to let us know if you're coming during one of those alternate times, so that we can be ready for you.
Don’t Forget to Celebrate: Have a prayer and celebration over your collection during your church's worship service. Your congregation is making a difference for babies and families living in poverty, and partnering to launch new mission and ministry in the Trenton area.
Thank you for helping your congregation experience the joy of giving. We look forward to hearing what God is doing in and through your efforts!
