Not long ago, I was talking to a mother of two about her family’s challenges because of COVID-19. “What do you need?” I asked. She laughed and shook her head. “Everything,” she said.
None of us can give everything, but we all can give something. That day, she went home with a double supply of diapers for her children. As a nonprofit diaper bank in the city of Trenton, the Maker’s Place has helped hundreds of families receive diapers. We’re working with community partners to help people find access to food, medicine, and more.
I’m writing today to ask you for your help. Our small but mighty team is rising to the occasion, providing essential items in our community during a time of crisis. Will you meet this challenge with us, and with the families we serve?
Requests for diapers have increased by 250%. Since shutdowns began in mid-March, the Maker’s Place has distributed 15,000 diapers. We’ve come alongside hundreds of families, to make sure they have diapers and other basic items. Close to 50% of these families are coming to us for the first time.
If you’re able, I invite you to give, and give generously, to the Maker’s Place. Your financial support means that we’ll be able to restock diapers, cover unanticipated costs, and keep our new organization strong during a time of financial shortfalls. A $20 donation can keep a child in diapers for up to two weeks. A $250 donation can keep a child in diapers until October.

Thanks to the generosity of a few super-donors, we’re excited to announce that the first $3000 will be matched dollar for dollar. If you give today, you can double your donation! Will you join us?
Perhaps you’d like to give for #GivingTuesday. Perhaps you’d like to dedicate your gift to someone for Mother’s Day. Whatever your reason, I hope you believe in our mission as much as we do. Together, we can define our lives not just by what we need (even when it feels like we need everything) but also by what we have, when we stay connected to each other, and who we are, as beloved children of God.
Thanks for building an abundant community for all. Please donate today.
